German chemist Martin Heinrich Klaproth named Titanium, a lustrous silver metal, for the Titans of Greek mythology who were known for their amazing strength. Titanium has the highest strength to weight ratio of any metal making it dent resistant, light weight and ideal for timepiece construction. Furthermore, Titanium is corrosion resistant to everything from sea water to chlorine.
